4Ocean announces that they have joined 1% for the Planet to help fund organizations whose mission is to help the environment.
Founders of 4ocean, Alex Schulze and Andrew Cooper, started the organization back in 2015 after traveling to Bali for a surfing trip. Once they arrived at the beaches, they discovered just how bad the plastic crisis was and decided to take action.
They created the 4Ocean bracelet, and for each one sold, a pound of plastic would be pulled from the ocean.
After a year of starting up the company, 4Ocean sold enough bracelets to pull over 250,000 pounds of plastic out of the ocean in 2017 according to an article posted by CNBC.
Now, 4Ocean has a magnitude of bracelets for buyers, from their original navy blue color to ones helping specific causes like the Sea Otter bracelet.
In the statement released about joining with 1% for the Planet, 4Ocean's goal is to give back to organizations that share the same ideals when it comes to working for a cleaner ocean.
By partnering with 1% for the Planet, created by Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, 4Ocean pledges to donate a "minimum of 1% of our gross sales to non-profit causes."
1% for the Planet has grown to more than 1,800 business members and 2,450 active non-profit partners with more than $200 million in total giving since the organization started according to the released statement.
By purchasing a bracelet or buying from any company with 1% for the Planet logo, consumers are helping support a cleaner environment.
Schulze and Cooper still have big goals for 4Ocean. They stated in the CNBC article that they hope to reach "10 million pounds of plastic pulled from the ocean", a goal they hope to achieve by the end of 2019.
They also hope to turn 4Ocean into "the world's largest organization dedicated to cleaning the ocean" according to CNBC, and by partnering with 1% for the Planet, they are well on their way to doing so.
